Make-Shift

tic-tac-toe on sliding stones

Object of the Game
Complete a row of three of your pieces horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

Setting Up the Game
Place the eight black push-stones in the playing area, leaving the central position empty as shown. Each player takes three playing pieces: Ivory or Madder.

Playing the Game
Choose the player to start. Each player makes only one of the following moves on a turn:
- Place one of your pieces on a vacant tile.
- Move one of your pieces to another vacant tile.
- Slide a tile into the adjoining empty space, whether or not it carries a playing piece.

If a single tile is moved, the opponent may not return it to its former position on the next move. If the empty space is at the perimeter of the board, a player may slide both tiles in the same row together as one, leaving the empty space at the other end of the row. The opponent may then slide back the single tile of the pair into the adjoining empty space.

The eight black push-stones start around an empty center.

Push one neighboring black stone into the empty space.

If the empty space is on an edge, two stones in that line may slide together.

The opponent may not immediately undo the exact push just made.
